Lucked into an early screening of this, and yes, it's pretty fantastic. It's like a Fast & Furious for people who like Movies, not just movies about things they like. There's no real attempt here to reinvent the period crime drama, but it blows the roof off it by just being an incredibly well-made, and fun take on the

"I'm writing a book set in Iraq. There's a chapter where a convoy of military police is transporting a criminal, and Lieutenant Dan -he's our main guy- he gets a bad feeling-"
"Yeah, Forrest Gump"
"Huh?"
"There's a Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump
"Oh shit you're right, I'll change it."

"Get Lucky" wins by pure play count, but what i'll be coming back to are "Graceless" from Trouble Will Find Me, "Don't Save Me" from Haim, and "Drove Me Wild" off of Heartthrob.

I listened to "Tusk" by Fleetwood Mac 84 times in the last 11 months.

It's a hell of a lineup, and I think an interesting commonality is that the dark elements of these shows reflect a lot more style than other nihilistic, or misanthropic dramas that assume you need to be somber and violent to be taken seriously. The Returned is genuinely quite scary, combining a creepy atmosphere with

Man, this was a nice throwback to when South Park seemed to always be firing on both cylinders. South Park always did its best satire when using pop culture trends as a chance to explore a broader social idea that Matt and Trey wanted to highlight, skewer, or just get some jokes out of. Black Friday and Game of Thrones

So when Peralta cuffed himself to Holt in the safehouse, it crossed my mind that the end of the episode would finally make it clear what kind of show Brooklyn 99 is. I had to that point believed that the show was at its core, a pure workplace comedy, and so there was no way a character's life could be at risk; the

Finally, the Commentariat Awards have a Golden Globes to their Oscars. I plan to be just as uninformed and open to bribery as the HFPA.

I imagine Terriers isn't here because it's still very often boasted by critics, and they wanted to bias the list towards older, lesser known programs. Plus, the continued affront to DVD shelves everywhere that is the lack of a home release for the show probably doesn't help its chances.

No lie, I'm really digging the dam subplot. Certain shows can only really manage one tone at a time, but part of what I like about The Returned thus far is how well it shifts between drama and horror (soundtrack is a huge part of why it works), while also sneaking in little underplayed bits of comedy that don't break

Suddenly inserted as it might be (although I did start watching 10 minutes late so its possible I missed something big) Harrison FINALLY getting his own story is something I've been looking forward to. There was a scene in the second last episode of last season where Harrison essentially tries to Pope Olivia and it

I'm holding out for House of M of Cards and Orange is the New Black Panther

This reminded me Nicholas Ray's The Lusty Men. Woodrof makes me think of what would have happened to Arthur Kennedy's character if he had kept up his self-destructive rodeo lifestyle, instead of getting some sense knocked into him by Robert Mitchum.

Looking forward to it. I'm catching up on the excellent coverage he did for Rectify, which could carry over nicely to something like this.

Blow pop!

"I've had just about enough of your Vassar bashing young lady!"

Easily one of my favorite lines Homer has ever spoken, even if it's completely out of character for him as the lunkhead he's usually played off as. Homer's intelligence seems inversely proportional to his time spent in the episode, so the slightly more competent version of him we get as a supporting player is often

The Last Samurai 2: Wait, There Was One More

Gravity 2: Cruise Control

I caught the same show! I actually thought Scott killed the opener, but his real strength is certainly as a catalyst. Good style variation between Scott, PFT and Sean, made for a raw, craft-heavy podcast.
