Yeah, I cringed when I saw nerdy dread girl sitting in a bar reading Origin of Species…. that's just lazy writing.
Still loving the show, though.

When watching a show based around a strong lead character (as opposed to an ensemble), don't we pretty much ALWAYS assume they can't be killed? If knowing the hero would survive doomed every such show, we'd have a lot fewer great shows.
I think I can confidently say that the type of eastern Canadians who would be likely to watch a show like this have heard of Simon Fraser. We're not that insular.
I was sure I misheard it the first time. Was this some wink to Canadian viewers, knowing the show would end up airing in other countries (where, I assume, the name wouldn't mean anything)? Very odd.
Great-grandparents? I grew up in rural Canada in the late '80s, and we still had a party line. Every time I picked up the phone, my aunt would screech at me from the other end. To this day, I still listen for a dial tone before I start dialling, out of ingrained habit.
They did show the room number. It was #7- the one Amy had looked in before. But in a place where the hallways can shift, maybe the room numbers can change, too? Perhaps they shared a room, but saw different numbers…
The Key to Time cycle was great on the whole, but man, The Power of Kroll did stink. I thought I'd never get that chant out of my head. Not since The Gunslingers had I been so irritated by repeated music on Doctor Who.
For greater originality in your tense choices, I will have be referring you to Dr. Dan Streetmentioner's "Time Traveler's Handbook of 1001 Tense Formations". You were have been welcome.
So if you guys had a problem with the walls/floor inconsistency in 'The Next Phase', I'm guessing you're not big Red Dwarf fans?
Hmm… I see I've arrived a year late. Faulty waveform extrapolator…
Anyway, count one more request for classic Who write-ups!
(And one more vote for the Third Doctor. Jon Pertwee rules.)
Spearhead From Space would be a great place to start, although there are still some awesome eps remaining from the first two Doctors.
@Eponymous
Agreed. I found Roslin a much more strong/believable female character than Starbuck. In the same vein, I found Dax to be much more realistic than Ro/Kira.
Ro and Kira seemed to me to just be stereotypes running to the opposite extreme from touchy-feely characters like Troi. Dax (and Janeway, for that matter)…
I agree with Hercules up there… The Royale is one of my favourite episodes, just for the random weirdness of it. Personally, I don't find that extreme and imminent danger to the characters is always a necessary component of a good ep. Somtimes, just a good mystery and a bit of fun are enough. The time travel episodes…
Thanks, Jimmy James, the quizes are awesome.
Japanese people give the best titles…

I'm sure this has already been addressed somewhere down the comments, but just what the hell is so "great" about all these films (not the entire list, but a considerable proportion of it) whose plots seem to hinge on women getting brutally raped, beaten, or otherwise violated? It makes me sick to my stomach that…
Seconded. Two a week once the material gets better would be awesome. I want to stretch out the nerdy joy a bit longer.
I agree. The Royale was awesome. It and Time Squared were my season two favourites.
Definitely not a big fan of The Icarus Factor. I'm not a big Polaski hater, but I hated her in that one. Her lecturing Riker about how he should feel towards his shitty, unrepentant father was pretty irritating.

From Voyager:
I'm sort of embarrassed to say this, but Babel and Move Along Home were two of my favourite DS9 episodes, which probably explains why I always liked TNG so much better. The politics-heavy episodes were never that exciting to me… I enjoy good old escapist, semi-nonsensical Trek. I think the two series really appealed…
