I noticed that too. To be fair, though, I was watching the show consistently and had no idea that it was doing badly in the ratings. I thought it was at least as popular as Colbert. Maybe they thought it didn't help.

I respectfully disagree with all of that. And come on, how could anyone not find the sour, biting humor of "The Unblackening" at least a little funny?
I hate to say it, but you're probably right about CC's racial calculus. They didn't see that Wilmore was older, from a different culture, and had a completely different comedic voice than Trevor Noah, which is a damn shame. I like them both, but for completely different reasons.
I'm still kind of vainly hoping someone else will pick this up. Apparently, though, there were a lot of people that didn't think this show was funny. I'm genuinely mystified by this, but then again, I don't exactly have my finger on the pulse of American culture. (I even admitted to kind-of liking Suicide Squad, so my…
It really depends on the kid. My 5 year-old son definitely thinks Coraline is scary, but that's part of the appeal for him. Watching him, I think that slightly scary entertainment is one way kids his age process anxiety about things they are not quite able to articulate.
My son is 5 and loves all things Ghibli, including Spirited Away. He also went nuts for Coraline. A word about that, though: it depends on your kid's tolerance for scary stuff. My son likes being unnerved just a little bit, which is why I think he likes those movies. One of his friends got nightmares from Coraline. So…
Literally no anime series I can think of went out of its way to cast Asian actors for its English voice cast. It doesn't really make sense that they would, when you think about it.
OK. So what's the difference between an Asian voice and the voice of someone from another race?
Please don't get that started.
Yeah, the ads for this one looked really good. And I think my son may enjoy this as well, given how much he got into Coraline. We'll probably go see it this weekend.
I'm trying very hard to teach my young son that just because somebody is accused of something, or even arrested for it, that doesn't mean that did what they are accused of. A difficult task in a world where a lot of adults don't seem to understand that.
Fair enough. The allegations were not proven, after all the evidence was presented to a group of people by other people who were actively trying to prove them.
He was acquitted, folks. Let's please not ruin somebody's life over allegations that have literally been proven false in front of a jury of people who literally had all the facts available to them.
Me too. Wilmore was consistently the best part of CC's lineup, IMHO.
I think it's safe to say that Larry Wilmore was not seriously suggesting that people conjugate the N-word. You may not have understood the joke.
I really did like this show. I guess people thought it wasn't funny, but hey, opinions. The guests at his roundtable were hit-and-miss, but the regular contributors always picked up the slack, and they usually talked about stuff a bit more substantial than you saw on The Daily Show (which I also enjoy). I'm really…
At this point, it has become the film critic equivalent of a frat boy who keeps insisting that he finds gay sex disgusting, but doesn't ever seem to want to talk about anything else.
A caveat: I've never been in your situation, so you know a lot more about this than me. Here is just what I would try.
Well, let's be fair. Suicide Squad wasn't any worse than Thor: The Dark World, and personally, I liked it better than Hulk (Norton, not Bana. Never Bana.) That puts it squarely within the lower echelon of Marvel movies, which makes it both okay and watchable. Given the level of hysteria on this site, one would think…
Will no one consider Morrison's Doom Patrol? I feel like that could be great, if very weird.
