But is it satire?
But is it satire?
"Well, when an adult male is chasing a female with intent to commit rape, I shoot the bastard. That's my policy."
Hell yeah. And it is nice that the "Ron moore smashed all my hopes and dreams, so this show is gonna suck" brigade have piped down a bit.
Oh, and Smuggy, it might be worth remembering, vis-a-vis seeing other worlds and aspects of the twelve colonies, that (according to the BSG Wiki, which is pretty damn reliable) until the signing of the Articles of Colonisation (which came about 52 years before The Fall, and probably in response to the first Cylon War)…
Speaking as, seemingly, a temporary insomniac, let me just say that AM radio is a Godsend! And the more Finnish, the better.
Hmmm. Transposed Alastair Reynolds in there for some reason. I meant Hamilton, of course!
I like Reynolds a lot, though some aren't too fond of his prose style (and the occasional lapse into a slightly adolescent interest in sex scenes).
"precipitation-like" is a rather monotonous character trait, after a while"
It's not my theory, but I read on a blog somewhere (possibly linked to from here or io9, I can't remember…) an idea that Willie isn't Bill.
I've been hit by bigger things than that rock and been fine! And taken nastier spills on a ski slope or two, as well… And anyway, his little puny arm wouldn't have generated any real power.
One of the potential reasons we haven't made first contact, according to the Fermi Paradox, is the possibility that aliens are just too alien; that life on other planets may have evolved in such drastically different ways that we wouldn't even recognise it as life, let alone be able to communicate.
If you take out the rather epic discussion near the start about sci-fi in general (and really, why should we?), it's still the joint highest most-commented on episode of the run, and the comments haven't stopped yet.
Smuggy, you devil… "I didn't start the slightly asshole tone in this thread … If someone phrases something in a confrontational way, then I'm not going to respond with sweetness and light."
Nah tabernacle, you didn't come across as an asshole-apologist.
You know, I've never watched a single episode of Lost. seems like I missed that boat. I suppose one day I'll sit down with a season one boxset, but I've never really felt compelled to.
"If you happen to know more about a particular subject than the average person, more things will strike you as cliched than they will the layman. Right? Clichedness is not necessarily intrinsic but a factor of how much of that particular thing you've consumed/been exposed to."
Yeah, it's picked up a bit for sure. If this is an indication of a growing interest in the show as it starts to gather momentum, cool, but I don't know how reflective the AV Club comment boards are of viewership. Be nice if they were…sometimes.
Jesus, if you weren't such an abrasive asshole, smuggy, I'd enjoy discussing these things with you. From the use of 'kid' to someone who's nearly 30 (not that you could know, admittedly, but still…), the (aptly) smug tone you adopt, to the arrogant assumption that you're the only one around here who actually knows…
not a replicant.
"Why you all wet, baby?"
