This episode was the weakest so far, that's a given. But I just finally caught up with season 8 today, burned through all 5 in row, and the wider problems you allude to in your opening sentence are hyperbolic to say the least.

Arabian Jason Schwartzman is indeed great. There still seems to be some debate about Renee, but I really thought it was all thrashed out last season. She's not Agent Freckles, or Rack Bauer. She is now, and forever shall be, Agent Hotness.
