He actually takes it off! Crazy bastard doesn't even wear earplugs either, as far as I could tell (it was intense enough being there once without them, I can't imagine doing that every night). To be fair, the hat probably wouldn't stay on his head very long — I think he took dance lessons from Thom Yorke.

To be fair, they're all gay, so that's entirely possible.

IMO, this is Grizzly Bear's best. I don't know how someone can level charges of "pussy indie kids" at them with how much this album flat-out rocks at times. There's always been hints that they can really pull out the stops (their fantastic live show, "On a Neck, On a Spit", "Little Brother (Electric)" ), but all of

Oh god, yes. Basically, imagine a combination of Sailor Moon, Evangelion, and Goethe's Faust (which the creators explicitly mention as an inspiration and is referenced in the show itself).

Anime is great for marathon-ing, since the episodes tend to be pretty small chunks. It's either something awesome happens and you have to keep going to see what comes next, or almost nothing happens and you have to keep going if only because you can't leave in the middle, damnit.

Yeah, I'd say it's maybe the most overall solid double/triple album this side of daydream nation. It doesn't feel like it fits any of the double album clichés of an artist throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. I can't see someone picking and choosing their favorite tracks — you listen to this monster

Still no swans review? I've been looking forward to discussing that one all week. Saving it for the next LOUD column or something?

Dunno if you count them since their first LP came out in '07 (and they're only on album 3), but the Horrors have actually managed to get steadily better after their debut was so ridiculously overhyped.

Yeah, I've made a commitment to not listen to anything off of it until I've got the vinyl in my hands. I don't usually do that, but the thing just seems so massive. I figure if they've put so much effort into making it huge I might as well listen to it that way.
