Thats a great way to decribe his work: A world you'd love, but also fear, get lost in. I recall that that was the topic of an Inventoring a while back, and I think Waits should have definitely been on the list, if he wasnt.
Yes! Ribot is amazing! He should have gotten some mention in this write up.
I agree as well. Maybe the best way to approach Waits is to divide his career, with Small Change for the first half and Rain Dogs for the second (thought now it may be necessary to divide his career in thirds, with maybe Alice or Blood Money for the Anti- recordings).
Hahaha! Switters, were at the G&D in El Paso, because that were I saw him and he told the same exact story, except that he also tried standing next to the guitars and then drums and still wasnt recognized. Later on during the show, some representative from the mayor's office gave him the key to the city.
Man, Jimmy, I really agree and disagree in equal measure.
Man, you guys are much more intense than I if Bone Machine is your best Gateway. Dont get me wrong, I love this album, but its so hard and percussive. I was actually listening to the Ramones cover of I Dont Wanna Grow Up this morning. It would definitely be the best Gateway for ZMF.
I think Small Change or Nighthawks at the Dinner make the best gateway to his Asylum years. Nighthawks has the benefit of showcasing Waits in front of an audience and his often hilarious off-the-cuff banter. My first Waits album was actually Closing Time. I borrowed it from my brother, and "Martha" was the first song…

A great game, really my favorite since flash game for the last month. While it may be too short (level customization and awards provide a lot replay value) I have to really disagree about the graphics being "ugly." The graphics, combined with the excelent music, brought back such fond memories of…
Gore Vidal
Friends? Ha! What friends? My only friends are grown-up nerds like Gore Vidal, and even he has kissed more boys than me.

Aint that the whole basis for Looney Tunes?
Wow, I bet Bart's Spanish fluency was as useless in Brazil as his English or French fluency would be. He'd have better luck with the Japanese in Brazil. Good thing I stopped watching new episodes well before this.
