I disagree with the review, I thought it was a nice chance to give the characters some real stakes.

My favorite SNL sketch is the one with Harry Shearer and Martin Short as brothers trying to bring men's synchronized swimming to the Olympics. The reason I love this sketch so much is for Martin Short's line "I'm not such a strong swimmer." Brilliant!
