It seems like Matty and Jenna are not intellectual equals. He's sweet and thoughtful and fun, but he's not as deep of a thinker as she is. I know Jenna is self-absorbed and selfish, but she's also intelligent and analytical, and I think she'd eventually need to be with someone who shares those qualities.
Plus there's

Don and Sylvia on the white carpet… callback to him and Megan in last season's premiere?

“Of course I miss them, you beast!” A subtle reminder from Kitsis and Horowitz.

What do y'all think was the point of the soldier at the bar, the wedding scene (which Don declines to explain while showing the slides), Don taking the wrong lighter?
Is it supposed to reinforce that Hawaii was some sort of fantasy experience, a chance he had to escape himself, be a better version of himself, but now

so are we done with the seer's prophecy now? did it come true with Gold sort of seeing his end?

I hear ya… but also he's the one who pushed her to change things up in the first place; he could at least be supportive about that point! and I'm sure Juliette can be a nightmare to work with, but when she lost it like that it wasn't completely unwarranted. She wasn't just being a bitch; she felt betrayed and was

Deacon is so freaking annoying. He's always trying to control and/or protect the women he cares about. He pushes Juliette to change up her sound then criticizes her for taking a stand against Glenn. He acts like Rayna killed his dog when she flirts with another man. I wish he would just grow up—or even better, I hope

I liked the fact that several family members acted so out of character tonight—I was really surprised a few times, which hardly ever happens on this show.
Phil acting like an adult to his wife and taking care of her…
Gloria saying that she finds Jay sexy… (it always seemed like she just sort of tolerated him)
Mitchell

i feel really heretical for saying this… but i kinda liked it… prob because i never loved the old version of the show (especially in later seasons, as it got more and more meta).
i'd like to see more character development as it goes on, but i think they did a good job of starting off the season with a fun, clever

was anyone else waiting for jess to throw her drink in nick's face when they were both sitting on the couch at the end?

just wanted to say- really love these reviews! they're my favorite on the site. thought provoking and not nitpicky.

i never cared that much about the triangle but really didn't care tonight… i have no opinion about who Jenna should end up with- Matty or Jake.
i actually wouldn't mind if she chooses neither, and doesn't mess up their friendship any further.
which is weird, because i usually grow strangely invested in teen show

i recently started rewatching season 1… i'd forgotten how good it is

i liked the last 2 episodes soooo much better and realized that maybe it's because fanny wasn't really in them.
i feel bad about this.
