I wouldn't worry too much yet.  The No Country For Old Men trailer was pretty "amped up" as well.  If I remember correctly, it had pretty much every scene in the movie that could be construed as "action" played back to back with intense-sounding music playing over it.

The Thin White Duke Ellington  I've only seen the first season and a few episodes of the second.  I thought they were building her up for that as well.  I'm extremely disappointed to hear that they didn't do that.  There isn't really any other interesting direction to take her given how she started.

The critics probably only watched the the first few episodes before making their judgment.  If that's the case, they probably had the same reaction I had to the first four: man this really sucks.  And that second episode, good god that was bad.
