I think after the backlash to last season the writers wanted to avoid even any hints of Olicity at the beginning. Now that they've earned some goodwill back they decided to dive back into things

After the writers drove Olicity into the ground last season, to the point I actively hated the pairing, this episode was a great reminder of why I shipped them so hard pre season 3
