flowsthead - You're right about the character development.  But I don't think any was necessary.  I thought the leads came out pretty full-formed off the bat. Both Hoss and Ronald Zehrfels' characters defined themselves in their opening scenes.  Think short story over fully realized novel.  Sketchy, I know. Would

I threw my daughter out of the house for a week for "duh'ing" me.  Lesson learned.

Still trying to figure out why DDL channelled John Huston for There Will Be Blood.  From his very first utterance, I was doing lines from Chinatown under my breath in the theater.  It's been tough for me to take him seriously ever since.  I just keep seeing him acting.

Killer scene.  I'm with you.  Any momma, even a whore-momma will do.  Not that Hushie would have sussed that at all.

I could watch Nina Hoss play solitaire.  Not a lot happens, but that woman could cut you cold without saying a word.  Give it a second look and just watch her.  She's so incredibly expressive, no words necessary.

So…. what's the difference between a six year-old pretending and a fifty-five year-old pretending?  The six year-old has a leg up on it, that's the difference. Shit, even Robert Mitchum said that's all there is to it.  So did Brando. So did George C. Scott. Three pretty good pretenders.

Should have had it for Rachel Getting Married .  She's a talented actress, (who knew, when my daughter was all agog over The Princess Diaries?) , and she had me stone cold in Brokeback Mountain .  Haven't seen Les Miz yet, but regardless of this particular nomination, the young lady is putting together a pretty

AFFLECK!!

I'm calling for a 10 year moratorium on comic book movies.  Enough, already!  If I can't get the moratorium, I'm calling for a 10 year moratorium on analyzing comic book movies (for anyone over 12).

Way too muted for my tastes.  I suppose it's indicative of British reserve, but I like a little fire in my passion.

Rihanna wins best actress.

Do they pass the Emancipation Proclamation?  What about the other thing?  Is Lincoln as tall as Daniel Day-Lewis or taller?  Do they do a reverse CGI hobbit leg thing on him? Does a passle of freed slaves walk down a hill to place flowers on the grave at the end?  Questions, questions….

I can't force myself to see it.  Read it plenty, and could never picture the titular character as a stick figure.

I hate unsentimental.  I hate it in book reviews, movie reviews, any kind of review.  What the fuck does that even mean?  And it's usually applied where there's sentiment.  Fucking stupid word.

Rock on, bro!

Where's the love for Red Rock West?

That's why they have office Christmas parties.

Same here.

No sound editing / mixing nod for Berberian Sound Studio?  Travesty.
