Was the Road House HDTGM eligible this week? If so, I'm not surprised it didn't even make The Rest.  I normally enjoy HDTGM, if only because the interplay between the three hosts is so good, but this episode had no energy or spark, and just kind of plodded along.  The crowd didn't seem into it, and Doug wasn't really

The Leykis stuff was golden, though I'm glad I knew who he was from my days listening to Carolla's radio show.  Speaking of which, Brian Whitman's Leykis FTW.

Continuing my string of negativity today, is there a more annoying entertainment presence than Jake Fogelnest?  I know they seemed to like his new podcast here, but his grating, whiny, trying-too-hard shtick is overwhelmingly unpleasant, at least to me.  Whether he's spending too much time talking between songs on XMU

I thought this was a relatively weak HUAL, perhaps mostly due to missing the leavening (no oun intended) effects of Josh Levin.  However, the review here makes me wonder if Scott listened all the way through as they very specifically address the fact that there are two Tom Perrottas and tennis TP is not novelist TP.

Is anyone worried that non-funny people will self-consciously try to take the Garlin/Holmes/Miller/Levine/Elwood approach and be intentionally annoying in order to become an audience favorite/heel?  I admit I haven't and won't listen to this particular episode (auto-deleted by me thanks to Brody Stevens presence) but

Aren't all Mountain Goats tracks lo-fi?

She definitely sold the character with attitude, but it felt like she was going in and out of the voice a little bit.  Not Pally-ish, just losing the impression periodically.

I'm going to call bullshit on HUAL being in The Rest this week.  I actually thought this was one of their strongest episodes ever, and the Afterballs were extraordinary.  I'd wager that AVC saw an opportunity with the demise of the runoff to artificially end the HUAL streak in The Best.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one taking a break.  For me the problem was summah.  As in, everything and anything they talked about had to relate to summah.  I get it, that's their shtick, but it was beat into the ground.  Without the structure of the charts to force at least a little digression from the summah talk,

I had an infected earhole once.  Poured some Pepsi Next into it, but it only made it worse.  Thanks for nothing Pepsi Next!

Factually incorrect*.  The Political Gabfest is fantastic, and ranks right up there with HUAL.  While Bazelon can get a little too bleeding-heart at times, all three of them (and Weigel and Saletan as fill-ins) are better than anyone on the Culture Gabfest, which is in fact empirically terrible*.
