One of Claire's character traits is that she's not a very good liar — she can't keep her feelings out of her face. This scene did a nice job of showing that.

I agree Book 8 was an improvement.
I keep wanting to not like this gimmick, but then he busts out "dance the kipples" and I can't stop giggling or reading.
Thanks for the info!
I love the characters too, which is why I slogged through all the recent books. I just want to find out how they all end up.
Agreed. I've read them all, and there is a fine line between world-building, and bloat. Book 7 had a section in which there were two whole chapters devoted to the inner thoughts of a minor character who got lost in the woods.
I thought the song was great. Both the music and the lyrics (I guess the lyrics could be accused of being too on-the-nose, but they work perfectly).
I don't know, I think all of them after 3 are aimless and bloated. And worse than A Song of Ice and Fire, because at least with that series we're still headed toward a resolution of the fight over the Iron Throne. The latter Outlanders are just not necessary.
MORE SPOILERS, AYE?

I think the voiceovers are just too tempting for Moore and Co. to avoid. In the books, much of the fun is hearing is Claire's 20th-century POV reaction to all the crazy stuff she's observing. They just need to be careful, as others have pointed out, to have them be insights into her thinking, not unnecessary…
She doesn't end up turning the 1740s into a happy feminist utopia. One of the things I like about the series is that Claire never quite fits in with the time period. Most of the people around her dislike or distrust her because she's different. That's what makes her eventual relationship with Jaime so important — he's…
liked for username.
You must be my friend Kelly, because there cannot possibly be more than one human being who prefers Grease 2 to Grease 1.
I second the weekly reviews!
I watched the pilot, and I don't get the comparison to DA at all. Even considering that the first half of the episode is exposition, this is more entertaining than DA on its best day.
BPC is a character in book 2 of the series.
Ah, the trauma of a good Catholic education. I remember a guest speaker/monk who told us about how he tried to pierce his own hands the way Christ's were pierced, so that he could feel some of the Savior' agony. Even in fourth grade, I remember thinking, "This man is a dangerous psycho."
It's so nice to see someone using their history degree to contribute to society.
Your name was never Ace. Maybe "Ace Hole".
