The only thing that could possibly be worse than Vampire Weekend is Vampire Weekend's little sister having a blog where she does doodles and such. And the only thing worse than that would be such a blog getting a TV deal.

This is a story that starts out awesome and then ends in absolute tragedy.

L.E.O. is a solid record, and it was fantastic to hear Sturmer singing again. There's a bootleg that goes around of various songs and snippets Andy was working on post-Jellyfish. A lot of it is just his voice if memory serves.

I don't see Jellyfish or Jason Falkner anywhere. Scandalous! Plus, you've got Semisonic (whose first album is amazing), but not Trip Shakespeare! Double scandal!

Mike Viola and The Candy Butchers were an awesome band. It's a shame he never got his due as a solo artist, though he's done very well for himself in the movie business. And Bubblegun is a tremendous record, thanks in no small part to Andy Sturmer's work.

It really doesn't get better than "Budokan," and despite some of the great stuff they added to the expanded edition for the 25th Anniversary, I stilll go back to the original version more than anything else in my Cheap Trick collection. A perfect listen from start to finish.

Elvis Costello may have been more consistently brilliant in those early days, but Squeeze's highs are as high as anyone in the game, and there's a sweetness to Difford/Tillbrook that make me go back to those songs more than just about anyone else who was recording in the early 80s. Most of their albums are spotty

I was 8 or 9 when "Your Love" was a radio hit, and I remember thinking I wanted all music to sound like that. That was my first introduction to power pop, most likely.

That whole debut is great, but "Rockin' Around NYC" is the one I never skip when it comes up on shuffle. That jam is dancetacular!

He also has the gift of having like three or four distinct voices. He's a great singer and a great character actor, in a way.
