Read half of W.G. Sebald's The Rings of Saturn—an amazing meditation on history, loss, time,
and our inability to understand the world—all composed as the author
walks alone along the eastern coast of England.  It might be the world's saddest pilgrimage.

Slow learner
I'm a big fan of a this show—which is weird for me, since I've never had a show that's I've regularly watched before, and I date from the time when people had "thirty-something" as their show. I like the show for two reasons:

It seems to me that the directors of movie or television musicals have historically improved the singing quality of actors. Marni Nixon's voice helped out or just subbed for Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Wood, and Audrey Hepburn.

Actually, this year the boys are Harpo and Groucho Marx. And I'm coming as Karl. I'll post photos.

I'd could come up with a costume out of Elephant and Castle or West Ham, but I'd really like to go as Bakerloo.

It had to be explained again and again . . .
Last year my eight-year-old son dressed up as Superman.

YES, BUT
Isn't the creation of new cult films on the AV club just the sort of thing that Carpenter was trying to warn us about?
