I agree. I have nothing against a melancholy ending if the story demands it, but many of Vaughan's tragic endings feel more than a little contrived (i.e. characters are unceremoniously killed off in the 11th hour and the survivors are left behind to bear the psychological scars).

I'd say Ex Machina falls firmly in the bad moping catergory.

I get the feeling that Catelyn's resurrection won't be depicted onscreen. As many have already speculated, they'll probably have the Lady Stoneheart reveal close out the season.

Agreed, the less we see of Meereen the better. Several of Danaerys' chapters could have been excised from ADWD and nothing of consequence to the overall narrative would have been lost.

That doesn't surprise me, the show always tends to downplay the more flamboyant and extravagant elements of the cultures across the Narrow Sea (e.g. Braavosi, Tyroshi, Myreneese, etc.).

On the positive side, the ten episode season length will require they streamline some of the pointless meanderings from AFFC

I could see that working. They've already established that show Pod is much more well-spoken than his hesitant, much younger book counterpart. Having Pod approach Brienne before she leaves KL would do away with the largely unnecessary period where Pod is tailing Brienne and help trim the fat from the somewhat bloated…

That scene is going to be brutal no matter how they end up shooting it.
