Leo McGarry. Tough but kind, encouraging, wise, compassionate. One of the most moving moments of The West Wing for me was when he tells Josh the parable about the guy stuck in the hole (or something) and his friend who jumps down into it with him because "I've been here before, and I know how to get out." He genuinely

The first example that comes to mind is, "I'm Autumn!" from 500 Days of Summer. I had my problems with the film but overall enjoyed it quite a bit until this cringe-inducingly awful last line.

I completely agree. Caleb was a really challenging character and it was essential to strike the right balance of bitter/loathsome and charismatic/engaging in order for the film to work and he did it so perfectly. I think he's a great comedic actor too but he doesn't get nearly enough credit for how great his dramatic

I agree. I liked The Vicious Kind a lot - not perfect, certainly, but I found it interesting and engaging (though I do think it would be a lot less successful without Adam Scott's searing performance at the center). So I was pretty surprised and disappointed to see that he directed this - I thought the trailer looked

insightful and beautifully written review, libby.

after american horror story, i just cannot believe that emma roberts can act. at all. john cusack, however, i have always loved/thought was underrated.

I found it really unsatisfying, honestly. I understand what the show was aiming for with Tommy killing Nucky, but I really disliked it. All Jimmy and Richard ever wanted was to protect Tommy and give him a good life away from Atlantic City and the crime surrounding it, and for him to end up a lonely, aimless murderer

i was hugely disappointed by the end of true detective but i still consider it much, much better than fargo.

for the record (and i apologize for being pedantic, but it was bothering me) - ray winstone is an actor. martin short's character in season 3 was, according to wikipedia and my memory, named leonard winstone.

Yeah. I watched the pilot on youtube about a week ago, and these reviews pretty much nailed everything I found terrible and disappointing about it. Don Cheadle is fantastic as always, and I'm sure Kristen Bell would be if her character wasn't such a massive cliche who appears to only be present as a deeply misguided

Wow. I never read this book, although I did read (and love) Everything is Illuminated. Then again, I was also about sixteen or so. Is it the subject of similar vitriol nowadays?

Perhaps it's just me, but I feel like Vera Farmiga's character in The Departed could qualify for this list as well. Haven't seen it in a few years, but I remember thinking, "Holy shit, what a terrible therapist."

god. i have such an intellectual/creative crush on this man. that, and i enjoy his goatee.
