I thought it was interesting that he used the "Sean Penn is still Spicoli!" defense for two reasons.

Death to Smoochy is criminally underrated. The dialogue is snappy as hell, the performances are top notch, it features Robin Williams being good-zany instead of annoying-as-hell zany, AND it's got Vincent Schiavelli. It's one of the few comedies that actually elicits Laugh Out Loud laughs from me.
