As a 50-year-old who is greatly looking forward to seeing The Specials this Thursday, I agree with the silliness of grown-ups hopping around as well as the 'lots of good ska' sentiment.

Yeah, he was on four or five episodes of Gunsmoke—more than once as a young, hot-headed Brave.

It's worth checking out the "Live! Alone in America" album (I believe there's one from a Japanese tour as well) from 1989. Good solo treatment of his songs, plus dashes of acerbic stage banter

Seeing GP and the Rumour this Sunday night with Ian Hunter and his Rant Band—can't wait.

Saw him on a canadian daytime talk show (The Alan Hamel Show?) when Holmes & Yo-Yo had its (brief) day in the sun, and he sang a very theatrical song (think it was something from the fantasticks). He is pretty posh—but seemingly a very warm, funny guy. This was a treat, even from one of my favorite features here.

Got a couple that just need to be named—HNIC (Thanks Dollar Bill Wirtz, see above)
Got some Barney Miller mentions, I'm in.
But unless I missed it, nobody has yet mentioned The Tonight Show or The Munsters. Cultural touchstones.

Came in here to make sure someone said HNIC theme. Then I see it's the guy who kept his team off the airwaves (maybe because he didn't have a good enough theme song???); but he's flying the same picture I cut out of the Boston Globe and had hanging on my bedroom wall until it crumbled into dust (and my brother hung a

Funny How Love is by Fine Young Cannibals—great, quiet jazzy guitar, and this verse:

In the winter of '79, I was 15 and was heading from the northeast corner of the state back to the northwest corner—my buddy "Macho" (he had a terrible black cowboy hat and a bitchin' pair of Frye boots) was driving with 4 or 5 of us in his Dad's olds—we were trying to make it home from a hockey game in time to drink

Mojo Nixon was better, even just in a title:
Stuffin' Martha's Muffin

Norse, I came to the Bogmen late (met Billy Campion and his brother, Chris, and tracked back from there) and I agree wholeheartedly. So you know, the band had gotten back together last summer/fall and are currently on hiatus as Billy is recovering from having polyps removed from his vocal chords.

Also a Joe Henry fan—saw him open for Elvis Costello, by himself, I believe just after Scar came out. Great show, great songs, also very funny—told us a story about why he was by himself: got a check for hte gig, figured he could pay a band or buy a suit. "How do I look?"

Uncle Efram (??!)
I watched and loved a Sunday Morning, part animated/part live action/part puppet show called (something like) Uncle Efram's Reconstituted Bible Stories. Uncle Efram was this manic frito bandito-looking hoot who drew pictures, told stories, acted out scenes all by himself or with a band of

@Victor Mature—Sunday Nights, CHOM FM, 10pm: The Pringle Program, Peter Pringle was a dj who had ties to CHOM/CHUM and would play the latest music from across the Atlantic. I think they played it on CHUM too. First place I heard the Clash (White Riot) and I remember calling a bunch of my frieds (and pissing off their

My kids are older, so I can play Father Christmas again—missed a span of 13 or 14 years there—first thing December 1.
