Yeah, I agree.  When Rabin calls Jay-Z's worst tendencies sounding like "an overcompensating hype man", that's what I hear in way too much of his work.  He's got talent, but when he focuses on his allegedly good taste in stuff, it turns out inverse to his taste in art.

With respect, I'm not sure what to make of this post. Russia had no "very deep and serious insights into military philosophy", and hadn't won a major military victory since 1812: Crimea, Japan, WWI, Poland, you name it.  Disaster after military disaster, spanning multiple regimes, and no lessons learned.  Worse,

Are we going to see Martin on this list?  I know y'all like Martin.  I think it's contractually obligated by the AV Club.

For what it's worth I think he chose his roles pretty well.  Goblin King in Labyrinth?  Total glam rock pose.  Alien in The Man Who Fell to Earth?  He's weird enough to pull it off.  Andy Warhol in Basquiat? Couldn't ask for better casting.

I like to think they told David Morrissey he was playing a good guy, filmed all of his scenes with Andrea and Michonne, then only went back and filmed the crazy stuff - like the aquarium heads - after the fact.  Any of the sense of menace I got from him in his first or second episode has long since dissipated.  We're
