Old school punk, so: political lyrics, three chords, lots of shouting.  Depends on your mood.  It's the right tool for the occasion, though.

Technically the judge said that feminism in itself isn't a crime, but that they did not respect the pluralistic nature of Russian society in allowing the Orthodox to believe that feminism is wrong.  It's a pretty garbled decision.

Yeah… then again their form of protest doesn't exactly have much of a history in Russia: punk was never the outlet for social anger the way it was in the West.  On the other hand, they made up a lot of ground with their closing statements, which did tie their politics back to a long history of Russian dissidence.

Ugh.  It's a lesser sentence than I expected, but still ugh - especially that awful statement by the judge, which is disgustingly reactionary.  At any rate the verdict and the lecture by the judge are going to help move more people onto Pussy Riot's side, especially those who weren't otherwise inclined to by their

Decent enough episode, but what really killed me was the extended shot of Farnsworth trying to sneak around the hangar while Leela and Amy just sit there and watch him.   It was funny enough as-is, but the longer it went on, with no commentary of any kind, the harder I laughed.  It's been a while since the show's done

I prefer Close Encounters, warts and all.

It's even better than its reputation.  Of all the consistent problems that Spielberg has as a director, none of them are on display here: the action is exciting, the horror is genuinely scary, and the character-building is just top-notch.  And then there's Robert Shaw's legendary monologue…

Damn, that Tom Arnold set was nice; he seemed so nervous, it was bittersweet and funny and more memorable than anything else tonight.
