Has anyone ever praised a Tyler Perry movie as "heartbreaking", though?  Legitimately heartbreaking and not just sentimental, that is.

And this - "it’s borderline-amateurish one moment and heartbreaking the next" - is a perfect one-line description of both Get on the Bus and Bamboozled.  It's so weird to watch someone so clearly talented fumble so consistently.

Waking Life?  I think that may be the most-seen of his Linklater appearances.

I dunno… apart from the awfully precious press release, I kinda like this idea.  Beck's songwriting has always been stronger than his performances, so this plays to his strengths, and may not be bad.  I'm looking forward to it.

Great, great pictures.  Awful commentary.  Like, Matt Lauer at the opening ceremonies "I've never heard of that country, har har" awful.

I have mixed feelings about it because I've been on both sides of this kind of discussion, where authenticity didn't matter much to me, or where blatant inauthenticity really ruined an experience for me.  I wish I could tie up my reactions neatly with a little bow, but it's mostly visceral and hard to explain why it

For what it's worth, it's a frequently stunning suspense film married to an embarrassing and poorly-conceived character study.  And that's without getting into issues related to authenticity, which I'm in no position to judge.

I'd like to point you to the "Don Quixote rode a donkey" line from the pilot, which, no, he didn't.  Unless Sorkin's intention was to make his protagonist look like an idiot for correcting someone with an inaccurate fact, but somehow I doubt it.

I haven't seen this since I was a college undergraduate (years and years ago, ugh), and I've wondered how well it holds up.  It's probably a good sign that I still remember the running joke, in French, even if I don't remember much about the details of the film itself.
