My response to the Daredevil clue was "What is a…blunt…stick?" (Which the judges had better accept, considering the poor clue-crafting) It makes a wooden conk sound when he hits people with it. But has the word "baton" been used on the show?

There's a Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. St James in Sheepshead Bay on Gerritsen Ave. I went to daycare/pre-pre-K in their basement. As for FJ, I educatedly guessed Lutheran because many Germans settled in the Midwest.
The Dickens DD about a building in the title stumped me. I could only think of Bleak House because Gillian Anderson was in an adaptation. Gotta study more Dickens for when I finally get on the show.
My pre-guesses for FJ were Roget, Webster, Bartlett, Guinness. After the clue (kinda vague), I went with Webster. Thought Bartlett was later. Poor clue, imo.
I knew the title of viceroy was also given to European governors of other foreign lands. The word came to mind but it doesn't sound Hindi. I just wrote "Raja." But I was 43-2 after DJ and hit all 3 DDs. I didn't need no FJ last night.
I detest the Teachers' Tournament. And I'm a teacher. The only tourney I accept as legit is the ToC.
If I'd won yesterday's game and buzzed in to identify Ohio and Pennsylvania, I would've given that $1000 back to the producers. I couldn't keep that money in good conscience.
I got cable at age 12 in 89. So the only 80s hockey I knew (outside of a few Ranger games on Ch 9 and going to MSG 1/yr) were from The George Micheal Sports Machine. So I only knew Gretzky and Paul Coffey. (As a fan, I have since caught up on my NHL history)
I love the "pesky" Esa Tikkanen. One of my all-time favorite hockey moments is him leaning in to smooch Dale Hunter while the refs were breaking them up. Dale was infuriated and Esa skated away with an "ain't I a stinker" smirk.
Arthur Chu smartly played for a tie from the lead bc he knew the next opponents were watching backstage and might otherwise play the usual 2/3 bet for FJ. This would make them bet higher than they normally should.
I kind of understand not wanting leaders to play for a tie. But when tied after DJ or having exactly twice the $ of second place, there should be an exception. New rule was applied too hastily.
I missed Enterprise because the clue said "how" Kirk boldly traveled through space. So I was thinking of adverbs. Other than "boldly". (P.S. The contestants were dumb.)
I knew alb only from crosswords. Never seen the word anywhere else.
Trivia: Isaac Asimov is the only author with an entry in each category of the Dewey Decimal System.
I was unable to get "anger" as a deadly sin. Like many here, my knowledge of them comes from Se7en. The clue spotted an "a," but I know it as "wrath." Can't recall the Bible version Trebek mentioned, but it's not the one Andrew Kevin Walker used.
I thought he was adapting Utopia. Killer show out of the UK. Hope that's still on track.
Rolf Benirshke and Bob Goen are lucky they got out early.
I didn't like FJ because Billboard album charts register with me as post-1970, the first year albums surpassed singles in sales. Pre-Sgt Pepper, albums were somewhat overlooked. I could only think John Williams. :(
It was a guess for me too. I ran through biblical names and got to one that sounded like he'd prepare someone for something.
I made the same mistake as Elizabeth. The category was Word Origins and "doublespeak" is much more common in our parlance than "doublethink." All in all, I ended DJ at 41-6 w $23300. Then thought FJ was a gimme.
