Correct -these remakes of classics, expanding universes (Marvel/Star Wars, etc) are pre-developed and built-in audiences is their cornerstone to keep these touchstone (and proven hits,) brands relevant. I was working at the label at the time. VH1 also had a Storytellers episode to support the comeback push.Plus they toured with Stone Temple Pilots that summer, who were never more popular. They got a real push, great press, sales weren't bad, just didn't connect wide enough for the smash they deserved.
true story: 15 years ago while in the record biz, my boss took me to hang out with Mike Trampp (White Lion singer) in Reno. He brought us to a strip club, where a stripper danced to "when the children cry" for us. funny at the time, cringing in retrospect.
