Yeah the whole thing is played to a sense of urgency that never existed except MAYBE for the “we don’t know when or where it’ll go next”, but they spend like 3 episodes kind of doing nothing anyway, going so far as for Captain Burnham to tell the crew to get some R&R, so...

Was it weird that I liked Tarka mainly because he was a dick to everyone else on the ship? He also didn’t want to cry in a corner about anything, which was a refreshing change of pace.

I believe the “giant eye” design is originally from Interstellar and based on some science they did for visualizing black holes. But I agree they do a good job with it. As “season arcs” go, this one is the best so far in Discovery, though, being Discovery, I’m sure we’re going to learn in the end that the anomaly is

That or just pluck Stamets off the Discovery to do the experiment with Tarka on a planet in a lab with virtually no danger to anyone else or threats to the ships very vital mission. I LOVED this episode. I really think it’s the best of the season so far and maybe of Discovery yet but this frustrated me to no end.

Not a bad episode. Especially considered the pile of half-assed crud we got last week. Yeah, we’ve seen the whole “prisoner who isn’t what he seems” plot before, but it was done well enough to be ok.

The show very conveniently elides Ted’s sociopolitical beliefs, despite his being a cis white sports team coach from the south, leaving me to headcanon his stance on a plethora of issues. This is all to say I’m sure he stopped going to Starbucks over the red cups.

I saw Hook in the cinema when it was released and had a good enough time I think. Beyond just the general synopsis of it, the “RU-FI-O!” and food fight scene are all I really remember about it, as I must’ve been 10 or 11 when I saw it. There was maybe a guy put into a trunk with scorpions or beetles, or that could be

They haven’t even taken advantage of the future by showing us some “wowee” 32nd century technology. Detached nacelles? Whoopedy doo.

I don’t get why the Ni’Var and the Federation would trust her to decide their fate any more than just the Federation President. She’s not Vulcan—- just happened to grow up amongst Vulcans. She has no ties to the Ni’Var. She’s a Federation officer. She’s from a completely different era, like 800 years in the past.

Exactly, the way they just immediately forgot about the dead guy was astonishing. Adira even said after they landed safely “I’m glad I came!” Followed by Michael and Tilly giggling about the whole misadventure in Tilly’s room after.

Someone pen a memo to Star Fleet stat:

I gotta say: Nominating yourself as the person (one of the people, OK, but) empowered to keep a galactic alliance accountable between members is a 5-D political chess masterstroke we haven’t seen since Dick Cheney’s Vice Presidential Search Squad delivered Dick Cheney as its first choice.

Season 3 was highly uneven, but so far this season (4 episodes in) has had one decent episode and 3 bad ones. 2 all time bad ones by my count.

Oh and completely agree about Book. He was probably the highlight of Season 3, one of the most promising new characters along with Adira, but the showrunners have somehow managed to ruin both him and Adira in one masterstroke of bad writing.

The time is ripe for the Dominion to crush this nascent Federation into so much space flotsam.

I guess the show thinks we’re supposed to be on Michael’s side over the president’s?  Which seems insane, since the president seems reasonable and even-handed, and Michael is just a crazy loon.

In fact, they specifically mentioned it in this episode. When Michael gave her speech to the Federation and Ni’Var leadership about collaboration she specifically referenced Rillak being Bajoran, Cardassian, and Human.

It was pretty directly implied in Michael’s big come together speech there, about Bajor and Cardassia overcoming their differences, but hasn’t been brought up otherwise.

I gave up on Doctor Who back when Cappaldi took over, when episodes seemed to be all about “fixing the fabric of the universe” or some other global event, while actual character driven episodes were just cheap fillers. Guess I’ll pass on another season...

Yes, I’ve been saying for years I’m still around because I am too old to unlearn and relearn new sites. And I like the commenters here.
