Historically when this is done it’s been mainly white folks, so since we are collectively all similar shades give or take tanning it’s kind of easy to find somebody close and just add bronzer or lightening creams.

Not odd at all. It’s the makeup artist ENTIRE JOB to make her look as close as possible to the original actress. Actress walks into the trailer, there’s a bunch of photos of the character that they want her to look like, and the makeup artist goes to town trying to match the look.
Sure, but that would have been just as bad as using makeup. Potentially worse, as she would not have had even the possible opportunity to object (totally understand why she did not feel comfortable objecting in the moment though).
It’s not odd at all. Production staff or management don’t micromanage the extras’ makeup. The artists can pretty much do whatever they want as long as they think it looks good. Barring some specific directive, it’s going to maybe be approved with a nod by the department head and accepted as a matter of routine by the…
It’s not bullshit, a makeup artist somewhat darkens somebody’s skin without the other people’s knowledge, the woman comes in and does the scene, the makeup artist doesn’t announce “behold! I have darkened the skin!” and neither does the extra. How would they even know? If it’s not clearly noticeable there is no reason…
I’m generally on the “anti-anti-woke” side when these sorts of disagreements pop up around here, but even I found the “well this is obviously the worst thing ever, no further context necessary” tone of this article off-putting. I think the root of the issue—emphasis on think; I’m a white dude and I’m not all that…
We appear to be living in the golden age of nostalgic TV revivals but to date they’ve been ranging from “yeah, okay” to “this makes me retroactively like the original run less,” so I’m skeptical. Sitcoms seem to particularly struggle with recapturing their old magic (looking at you, Arrested Development).
This was always my favorite Adam Scott role, and I am so happy that it’s coming back
Look, Jonathan Tucker, I appreciate your ambition, but you are not a leading man. You need to spend your career playing creepy murder weirdoes. I’m sorry, I know that sounds unfair, but those are the rules.
I mean, shouldn’t it be MODOFK? Yes, “for” is a little word, but so is “only”. Maybe throw in “Unlawful” in there to stress that he’s a villain -- MODOFUK.
What a weird bid for attention, doing publicity about this tattoo you’ve been desperately trying to hide.
Eh idk, having someone behind Thanos would be the sort of exponential escalation that the franchise can’t really sustain.
Hey, they’ve gotta make room for those 12 SNL articles every week somehow.
“Grade School Confidential”, where Skinner and Krabappel start dating, has worked its way up to being one of my low-key favourites over the years. There’s a tremendous empathy and sweetness afforded to both characters there, and it all feels very lived-in and grounded. Probably a sign that I’m getting older and…
I think you’re willfully misreading me at this point, or you have some definition of “action” that is opaque to me.
Right. That’s what I’m saying. Morse is young, gay, and sexually active. It also shouldn’t matter if he’s having sex with his immediate peers in age or with people younger than he is, as long as it’s legal and consensual.
I hear that. And as I said, I think D’Elia’s abusive behavior is, of course, wrong. I should have also been clearer that certainly it is easy for fans to fall into abusive relationships, especially since abusers are often very good at disguising their intentions/targeting the vulnerable—and so therefore the power…
We need to give him another chance, but only because there’s a serious shortage of white male comedians out there and we really can’t afford to lose a single one.
I feel we could make more emphatic that the problem here is the harassment and the threats, how some of the women were underage, and the fact that D’Elia doesn’t address those facets head on. And that the problem is NOT that he sought sex with adult fans, or that he did so with frequency. (If he is a sex addict, that…
it’s been two whole years since the show finally went off the air
