“Do they have shields during that?”
“Do they have shields during that?”
I think there’s a reference in this season to the Romulans just plain joining the Federation sometime between their supernova and the Burn. That would probably moot the treaty.
Heh. I can hear the editors saying, “Yep, that turned out to be too long a way to go for THAT joke. Well, that’s why we shoot reaction shots, even though we hope not to need them.” Presumably they’re keeping camp Linus in reserve.
“) Tig Notaro’s lack of screentime despite being one of the best characters on the show implies to me that she doesn’t want an expanded role”
It feels like they’re setting up the opposite - her taking over command of Discovery. Like, Saru is going to take a position with Starfleet or go back to Kaminar because reasons or some other horseshit to get rid of an actually compelling character so we can have more of our Lord and Savior Michael Burnham™ rammed…
But that’s not what he’s doing. He’s giving a pretty good overview of a course in “How To Write For TV 101.” He breaks down WHY things aren’t working for him. It’s not arbitrary. I only on rare occasions will sub a screenwriting class (I work in a film school), but I wish there were a good way to use these reviews.…
I’m usually not someone that cares about overly expository dialogue but holy cow at least 1/2 of the dialogue in this episode was characters making painfully obvious observations. I really wish this show had better writers because I love Trek.
No no. Zack and the lady over at Geek Den are the only two who seem to understand how empty this thing is underneath all the shiny. I’d swear all the other recap/reviews are paid for by CBS.
Osyraa: “Get out of that chair.”
You can see the difference between this and Classic Trek (being every episode before Discovery) in how they have to have three silly/dramatic/emotional scenes between when the landing party says they’re beaming down and when they actually do beam down.
That was not good. I think someone’s comment that they thought having two Keplians would make it hard for viewers to tell apart is the only real explanation for why they mixed up species. And a kid destroys all the dilithium in the universe instantly? That sounds really really dumb. The Orions taking over Discovery…
I think one big difference between pre- and post-internet world is pop culture used to be how you’d find out these little factoids.. Like, you’d watch the Simpsons and there would be references you didn’t get at the time but they’d register as funny and later on what they meant would be revealed. I think The Simpsons…
Yes, exactly that kind of thing. “Car hold”? How is that funny?
a buddy just sent me the ‘oh boy sleep! that’s where i’m a viking!’ thread and i was shocked to learn it’s widely thought that ralph was saying ‘i’m a viking at sleeping’, not ‘when i sleep i dream i’m a viking’, which to me is the only possible interpretation.
I was really rooting for Avenue 5. It’s astounding that the guy who created The Thick of It and Veep crapped out such a damp squib of a show.
Maybe it would have been more interesting for her to just walk thru a random door on the ship and never come back and have noone notice or act like anything was weird, and then have the first ep of her section 31 spin off be about having to roll thru disco and other points in history erasing herself. Oh well.
It honestly feels like the best choice would be to end ‘The Mandalorian” here. The show has a reached a natural conclusion. Prolonging it would be a mistake.
I love Mirror Episodes, even though they truly have no story telling value, I just think they’re fun and that’s fine by me. Even I was pretty tired of it by this point.
It’s always nice to see this account pop back up, but I wonder why it was for this post in particular.
And part of being a good writer is listening to criticism and making sure that terrible ideas don’t get past the brainstorming stage. That seems to be a problem with the Discovery writers. The Discovery writers are aware of some of the problems of their writing, they even have the characters point out a couple of those…
