I like the username.
But I also don’t get why people seem to hate Jasmine so much.
I felt the oppostite, he was good in everything last night. Also glad there were not a bunch of recurring sketches, not a lot of taped segments, rather they did live audience productions and his onstage strength and recitation was damn impressive. The opening monologue was natural and unique. Also he did odd voices…
I don’t mind in-so-much as Bosco was legitimately the only laughs I got from their panel - as dad-joke setup-rimshot structured as they were. I’ll agree with you insofar as I’m not sure this was her week for a win, in comparison to the relative effortless ease with which Willow worked humor into her decidedly heavy…
I thought the show was rather weak this week. Most of the sketches didn’t really take off but they weren’t downright awful either. Just your typical C+/B- just coasting by that you get from SNL nowadays.
But was the host game? That’s all I want to know
Lorne Michaels used to fire cast members after 7 seasons. Even when they were the big stars. And he didn’t let people take weeks off to do their own things.
I think the complaint was the meta-ness of the sketch. It’s about Chloe, using her real name. The show’s done a lot of “backstage” sketches the past few years. Some are funny, most are meh. It does have a feel on trying to impress how cool and fun SNL is to work, all the gorgeous, fun, creative people, inside jokes,…
“But today, everyone’s doing their own Delvey act on Instagram, and this feels like filler from a newish cast member whose talents are better used on outside targets. If SNL becomes even more of a blatant vehicle for personal-brand-building, Lorne help us.” I’m not sure what this means. I thought it was just a good…
Good start to your SNL episode reviews, and a pretty good SNL episode to review for a start. Aside from never wanting to see JAJ’s impeached cheeto ever again, I liked all of these sketches, tho I do think they could have pushed more. Like, if they’re going to lampoon Fox News being pro-Putin, really, really get into…
You didn’t like the meatball sketch? Look, I’m not going to say for sure that low key cough medicine abuse during my formative years did substantial damage to my brain-sponge, but I will say that I thought that the meatball sketch was goddamn delightful.
Very much doubt that the click hungry union busting corporate overlords are asking the writers what shows they really really want to cover. We all serve the holy algorithm my dude.
It’s weird to see a review of SNL that’s not a B-
You’ve got a bit of a Catch-22 going on here. You really like Sarah Sherman but also want them to cut cast. You think she’s on the staying block if they do that? The big cast is allowing for weird players to get occasional bits, which is worth it.
I’m confused...what’s with calling the “appearance” discussion about Graham and DeSantis “a pleasant memory of the Chevy Chase/Jane Curtin/Dennis Miller Update eras, where photo commentary was regular—”?
For a B+, this seems pretty unsatisfied.
Michael, not a bad first stab at reviewing SNL. Clearly you had shoes to fill, neither big or small, just left in the hall with laces untied
The original cast was only seven, but they got regular contributions from Franken & Davis, the muppets, Albert Brooks, Gary Weis, Mr Bill, Guido Sarducci, etc. They also reused filmed sketches with the cast and sometimes featured multiple musical guests and more than two songs. 21 is too many, but it’s not hard to…
