The takeaway from this entire conversation thread should be ‘humor is inherently subjective and one person’s choice for best current comic is going to fall flat with another person’.

I figured they were probably much better than they seemed last night. Studio 8H doesn’t typically do bands any favors. Unfortunately, those bad performances end up reflecting on the bands rather than NBC.

Yeah but that kind of casual cruelty to anyone with the faintest whiff of being an outsider was everywhere in kid and teen entertainment in the 80s so it’s hardly out of nowhere. 

Mulaney is one of those comics who could easily just do the same bits over and over. Honestly, they could have just picked the best skits from his first four shows and redone them, and it would still have been funny as hell. He’s definitely a unique talent.

I thought (and still do, I guess) think you expect far too much out of Update, but I wish you luck in your future endeavors, Perkins.
