Not saying I 100% agree but it’s entirely possible for all sorts of people to internalize all kinds of crazy ideas, racism, misogyny etc. in spite of their individual identities

This is a real your mileage more very thing but I didn’t think the bit was funny at all nor did I think it was any great display of talent. The details of her stories weren’t that funny and I guess her delivery was good but it made me miss the rawness of how Leslie Jones would’ve done a similar bit. If the stories

Thank you. I’ve been saying this. To me the Chinese Minister character, besides simply being annoying, is somehow harmful to both Asian and gay people, trafficking in all sorts of stereotypes about both and in a mean non-funny way. Obviously he’s Asian and gay so if he wants to debase himself like this I guess it’s on

Weekend Update as an Onion-like absurdist parody of the medium of news rather than a commentary on the news of the day? That sounds really interesting. Would love to see it

This was really a pretty terrible episode after a string of decent ones. The jock host ones are usually bad but Watt was a decent actor and it seems like they could’ve done more with him. This is that rare case where pretty much everything from the live sketches to the taped ones to update were all bad to okay, with

I agree, which is why I found it problematic that the show tried to make Chidi and Eleanor’s romantic relationship the most important thing on the show for a long time

Yeah I think it’s an American Protestantism thing. American Catholics and Episcopalians (basically the same as Anglicans) think of death more as you describe but many Protestants seem to be afraid of death and think it should never be talked about

Or a dramedy! Yeah I can see how it’s in the ballpark as a series that deals with philosophical and ethical issues but Russian Doll has a very different tone, much darker and grittier than the Good Place, closer to drama than comedy, and even has some horror elements. And Natasha Lyonne’s character is pretty much just

What you’re saying is completely at odds with all evidence and all psychoanalytic or philosophical understandings of suicide and is an insult to anyone who’s ever dealt with suicidal ideation or lost a loved one to suicide. You’re not worth engaging with so I’ll stop

I have those issues too but I had the opposite reaction. I was kind of annoyed, thinking my mother isn’t even self aware enough to think she did anything wrong

That was probably the best part of the entire finale aside from the delightful reappearance of “take it sleazy” at the very end

What the show presented about “going through the door” has absolutely nothing in common with earthly suicide. They’ve lived thousands of years, experienced everything, learned everything, reconciled with everyone they ever knew and are completely satisfied so eventually after all that, completely electively and under

Because all the NBC late night shows are filmed in New York now and “The Good Place” was on NBC

I loved Russian Doll but I wouldn’t place it in the same genre as The Good Place. I’m not een sure it’s a comedy

my take on the show is basically exactly the same as yours.

There was such a general drop of quality after the first two seasons. Having most of a season happen on earth was I think a big mis-step.
But this was an excellent finale, though not an all-time great finale. But it will keep the shows reputation high

oh God bible thumpers are coming in here now wow

Exactly it would be closer to the truth to say they left because it WAS enough

Why isn’t it?

God you sound like a pompous gasbag

r u ok bro?
