In the scene with the daughter being burned alive the actor playing Tig seemed barely believable. No sense of emotion or any depth of feeling, just "screaming" where it says to "scream" in the script. I wonder if they did more than one take.

Not saying he is a bad actor in other things just that, for me at
least, in this he feels like a cartoon. Much of it is the writing for
his character but he is also phoning it in with his "uncle buddy"
routine.

An excellent review by Mr VanDerWerff (as usual). I agree with his
assessment of Newsroom's failures on all points - except for the one
about how its women characters are handled. I've read the criticism of
Sorkin's treatment of women in this show, often very strongly stated, on
this and other sites. I have to say

Don't get your panties in a bunch. All these cardboard characters are equally bad - except they are bad in TV gender stereotypical ways.

Ugh. This show is simply serial snippets of banal TV style 'romantic' banter between characters we don't know, have little reason to care about and probably wouldn't care about them if we were to get to know them. And then Sorkin adds the 'serious' sprinkles' (ostensibly 'the news') on top like a pretty bow on a box

I think "full of disdain" is appropriate - like "full of shit".

Even the C is grade inflation.

I hope he doesn't use "the news" as mere background for the sort of "romantic" farce dynamic we have been seeing. Ugh.
