As a production designer, Robert Stromberg won Oscars for both Avatar and Alice in Wonderland. He just finished Disney's Sam Raimi-directed Oz movie as well, which should make for a trifecta of vividly singular worlds he's created. I think he was an inspired choice to direct Maleficent.
