The Fans Are Never Satisfied Straw Man
When I start bitching about these films people still bring out the never-satisfied defense, but from what I've seen of fan edits so far, there WAS a good movie hidden inside here that needed a couple of more passes under a dispassionate editor's scalpel.

Better Self Love than Self Hate, yah?
I'm a bit alarmed that Alex's attempt at self-improvement winds up appearing narcissistic. Trauma breeds change, both good and bad; he was deeply affected by his friend's death and he needed to address what that death unearthed inside of him. I'd be afraid for a culture that

They refused to give him coffee grounds to glue to his face
I hope they have footage of him being driven from the country. We need documentation of this historic first strike. Fight on!

New York, I love you, but you're bringing me down
Like a death of the heart
Jesus, where do I start?

That is actually what you look like if you follow the Morgan Spurlock experiment to its natural conclusion.

We bought a full lecture series with him talking about the origins of Christianity. Fascinating stuff he talks about, but there's bound to be some overlap since we're basically, as a culture, stuck on the same book throughout all of it.

Melange
Yeah, problem with that is if you give it up you die. Are there more alternatives?

Keep those eyes open!!

Being Young Is Hard to Do
Music starts out great because you haven't heard better. So whether or not you're hearing an all-time classic or something you'll be embarrassed to have in your record/tape/CD/mp3/psychoid-crystal collection, you think it's the bee's knees as long as you have even a basic reaction to it.

Dinosaurs, zombies, superheroes
Sometimes "juvenalia" pays off. It's all about quality, not direction.

Fantasy is all some of us have left/finding a new voice
If it's the age of the singer that's the problem, really when you're done fighting your battles and found some stability, fantasy doesn't lose its allure since it's the only hope we have for a world that never seems to move on with us.

15 Storeys High had one
I still think more folks need to see that show, even if it's just to add it to a list.

I GOT IT!!

I don't think The Bed Sitting Room fits (that comes up the most frequently in searches for this sort of thing) but I'm interested in seeing that film now, too. And I don't think it was The Twelve Chairs because the the play was written, I'm pretty sure, by someone from the UK.

Yes! The rules were (and are, since they never change) balls, but I still have fond memories of piling on all those different mutation traits. Neat!

PC Gone Mad
Lucifer isn't white, he's red! This is total bullshit!!

It's the Internet, I Have No Excuse
I caught a bit of this on TCM a long time ago, and later saw The Knack and loved it, so I've always sort of wondered if they were connected, even though I didn't remember this movie's title.

That is the best, if only, TMNT RPG reference I have ever read.

Since they seem responsible for everything, maybe you already ARE one of them!

Some Alternatives
There's always another angle, though. You could say that he's stating that the U.S.'s dominance means he no longer needs to have the citizenship, since the American Way is now universal.
