It sucked to think about how recent "The Matrix" was at the time that show aired, and being looked back upon like it was something of a significantly different age all together.
I don't think it's that bad. Every good critic should prepare the audience for the burden of explaining the difference between thoughtful analysis for those who didn't take the time to do it themselves and recognizing that they too are part of the shared experience. All part of the hierarchy of creative mediums.
