There was some GOP staffer who clutched her pearls when the Obama girls wore *gasp* dresses without sleeves a few years back. She said something about them dressing like they wanted to be picked up at a bar. She"resigned" shortly after her criticism went viral. http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/…

That's been a discussion in the library community as well. At first, it was centered on helping senior citizens determine if a website was fake or not. Now it's fact-checking government sources.

I love rice pudding! Such a perfect comfort food.
Your summer barbecues sound wonderful!

An update on how conservatives are viewing this weekend: https://www.washingtonpost….
It genuinely terrifies me that we seem to live in two different worlds. Common ground is essential and it's crumbling beneath us.

In case you haven't already. They were heroes this weekend and they are necessary in the coming days.

I use that list and the graphic novel list a lot when I'm ordering for my library. There's other best-seller lists out there, but NYTimes is kind of the standard.

I liked that the pimento cheese tripped everyone up in the taste-test, especially considering that awful-looking pimento cheese dip John made last week.

I wonder what Trump's "base" is going to think when the price of nearly everything goes up thanks to his economic policies. "Made in America" is a feel-good slogan, but everyone's gotten used to made in China prices.

I think I might be registered in two states, too, since I voted locally when I was in grad school. So, I guess Trump is right, because my apparently fraudulent vote definitely did not go to him.

In maybe the most horrifying thing I've read today (and I get updates from WaPo on my phone, so I wake up with Trumpdates every morning now), Steve Bannon has said the news media should "keep their mouths shut". NY Times article here.
He goes on to say that the media is the "opposition party," which is so dystopic and

All the President's Men would be good for a journalism display, which is another idea I've been thinking about.

Vonnegut is always welcome.

Good idea! Thanks!

That's a good one - thanks!

I'm working on a mini-display for my library of cautionary dystopias - so far, I've got 1984, The Handmaid's Tale, and It Can't Happen Here. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Can anyone actually cyberbully the most powerful person in the world?

I'll admit it: I saw Marley & Me in the theaters with my family when it came out and I audibly sobbed when that dog died. In my defense, my beloved childhood lab had died months earlier. But, like, people turned around and stared.
