I would probably say that there are 3 films I've seen so far this year that I would clarify as "great," as nebulous a determination that that is: Miss Bala, The Deep Blue Sea, and Moonrise Kingdom.
The Turin Horse was a great accomplishment as well, but I almost consider a film such as that as being in a different

Figure it Out and Breaking the Magician's Code revivals on the same night? Late 90's nostalgia here I come. Here's hoping for a revival of Lie Detector with Marcia Clark where she gives lie detectors to famous people, and the results are pretty much what we all thought, but still interesting!

One of the statistics that this movie cites is that 15% of incoming navy recruits have raped or attempted to rape someone before joining. As shocking as that was to me, the film then glosses over the next comment that this is double the rate of the civilian population.

I was far from alive at the time of the disco backlash, and while I understand that part of it was from the songs being overplayed, that's something that happens all the time, and you don't see people destroying records or MTV/radio stations being afraid to play songs by black artists for fear they will be labeled

In "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay"

"Humanizing" Ellie really does nothing for me, since she's still a horrendous witch who stole someone's job (I did miss "Welcome Party," so I'm not sure what happened there.) If they want to humanize her they should probably start with the actions that dehumanized her to begin with.

I was so frustrated by the first half of the show (I don't mean that in a pejorative way) I really could have watched Andy and Erin go off for an entire act. Was anyone else hoping for Andy and Erin to pull off a lesser version of the ending to Dogville?

In regards to the debate over MST3K's quality:

So not only is Alicia a horrible person, she's not an intelligent one either. It would be one thing if she was going along with Colton's plan out of necessity if she knew that he wouldn't change his mind, but from the gleeful way that she is going about things, she seems to actually think voting out the other women

Chris reminds me of a young, male version of Susan Boyle. Good singer technically, but I can't see many young people wanting to vote for him.

Hannibal was one of the first cultural disappointments that I can remember. I had just seen The Silence of the Lambs for the first time the previous year, dressed up as Hannibal Lecter for Halloween, and was so pumped up by the trailer for it. "Is this Clarice? Why hello Clarice." was like a meme between my mom and I

Great idea. I actually had the same idea for this over a year ago, but I had no clue who the customer was and how I could even organize this. Oops.

Elaine: I was sittin' there, making a Cup of Soup and singing that song from The Lion King.
Jerry: Hakuna Matata?
Elaine: I thought I was alone.
Jerry: That doesn't make it right.

He might not be flamboyant, but there's some sort of weird fake element to Brendan/Rachel's relationship. It was super apparent on Big Brother, not sure how much it will come out here.
