I would say "soap opera" is something of a Potter Term in that I know it when I see it but I can't really give a definition of it.
I don't know, I was kind of annoyed at the show wanting us to root for Leslie in this episode. She kind of was being a bitch, so I don't see why we're supposed to be angry that the guy called her out, other than the fact he went back on his deal (his real crime, IMO).
The problem with this movie is that it felt exactly the same as the Swedish version to me. Was it technically better? I guess so, but what's the point? It wasn't a shot for shot remake, but it might as well have been. Even on a stylistic level it felt the same to me. If you weren't going to change anything, why do a…
Speaking as someone who lives in New York, I can't say that I've had much of a good experience with this year in film. I don't think that we should have to rely on mainstream films or the studio system to produce good movies, but the issue is that that used to be what America was good at! Of course other countries…
I'll be honest. I had no clue until this article that "All I Want For Christmas is You" wasn't an old standard. I just assumed it was and that Carey's version was the most popular version.
I can't imagine how a home theater is anywhere close to going to the movies, but that's just me.
If I recall correctly, isn't this, the first episode where someone uses the term "alliance?" Sue/Kelly/Stacey talk about having one I believe. Actually predates Richard using the term, even though he would perfect it.
Isn't this illegal? Vertical integration anyone?
The pandemic dooming mankind implication didn't make much sense to me. It's contagious, but the one guy it gets spread to only gets it because someone sneezes on him. Not exactly the hardest disease to avoid. James Franco and others are around Patient Zero while he's infected but they never come down with anything, so…
The one thing that bothered me about the gay guys
was that I never found them to be that threatening. The white guy is downright geeky looking. I always assumed that that was the joke, but I just found it more frustrating than funny.
I always loved that George actually came close to getting the job he tals about way back in the beginning when he quits his realtor job, when he wants to be the general manager of a baseball team.
The problem with studios today
is that they make movies based on the potential to create a franchise and create "synergy" with product lines in other parts of the media conglomerate the studios a part of. And having most mainstream movies go into wide release creates an atmosphere where an exploitation mindset…
"Toxic"?
Not so much because people suddenly taking Britney Spears as a serious artist (albeit people probably take her more seriously now than they did when she first showed up), but it was kind of the beginning of dance/pop music being taken seriously again, at least by some people. That type of music is huge now…
The issue is not so much that walking through Blockbuster trying to find a movie made watching the one you found more rewarding, but that it potentially exposed people to items outside of their comfort zone. Who browses Amazon? Most people just go in with tunnel vision and get what they want. Not always getting what…
shown up late *in order to* watch sports by themselves that should say.
Forgive me if this has been mentioned somewhere
but when talking about male cultural obsessions, it seems like a big gap to not discuss sports. It seems like whenever various fans of various cultural products get criticized, sports fans get a pass, which is pretty ridiculous considering that a school never cut their…
To anyone who saw this film
I presume that she was just lying when she told her "partner" about her relationships with everyone in the apartment. That's how I took it at least. Especially as she talked about the older couple who lived down below, but yet whenever she looked down at their yard there was only the man…
Where do movies cost
Where do movies cost 7.50 for an evening screening? In my hometown area which is two hours away from a major metropolitan area (although it is a resort spot in the summer) tickets cost 10.00 year round! I even checked a town further inland that's not resort based and tickets there cost 9.50.
This is a pretty great idea. I actually had a similar one last summer, about doing something like this for indie films currently in release. Create partnerships with certain theaters not in major urban areas, and once a certain amount of people sign up to see a particular movie, a print gets sent to the theater for…
