Actually pretty good
As one of the crowd who thinks the Simpsons has been mediocre-to-bad for the last 10 seasons, I liked the movie quite a bit.

8th was the last great one
There have been plenty of good-to-great episodes since season 8 (I kept watching every episode up till somewhere around season 15, when it finally wasn't enough to keep me scheduling my Sundays around it), but I would never consider buying the DVDs after season 8.
You people are strange and frightening
I can't begin to fathom the perspective of the people who seem to have a problem with all these Simpsons articles. Are you all in that deviant subset of people whose speech isn't at least 20% Simpsons quotes? Why can't the AV Club flat-out love the Simpsons without being…
Pre-judging
This movie has a ton of flaws, but if you haven't seen it, your opinion of it's highly suspect, as it does a number of surprising things to confuse the whole gay-panic issue.
It is neat
As an independent bookstore employee, I've talked a lot of shit about Harry Potter in my day, but it really is fucking awesome to see a bookstore full of excited people who can't wait till midnight so they can start reading a damn book.
Weirdly surprised
Ignoring the interesting discussion above…
Actually, Transformers made me wrathfully angry
There wasn't one original moment in it and in 140 minutes of movie there was the grand total of about 20 minutes of robots kicking ass, most of which were in that end battle where you couldn't tell who was who because the Decepticons all had such AWESOME!!! designs and…

Skewed perspective on hipsters
The thing that gets me about these types of discussion is all hipsters seem to be imagined as ascot- and zebra-pants-wearing beanpoles with lots of obnoxious opinions about bands you've never heard of.
Was Demolition Man a flop?
Or does it have a cult following? Because I too would be delirious with glee if it's Thursday's entry. It's not necessarily one of my favorite movies, but it's one of a handful I could watch every day till I died and be as entertained by it then as I am now.
That part was fun
It was also 3 minutes long.
What?
Even if that post's sarcastic, I don't understand why people are so impressed by the action in this movie. There really isn't all that much! It's two hours of cliched sideplots about soldiers wanting to get back to their families, uncool teens lusting after cool teens, and secret government agencies revealing…
Good God!
I haven't seen anything remotely close to this terrible all year. From the baffling sideplots to the stupid jokes to the cringe-worthy car-pimping scenes—sweet fuck. They made a movie about giant battling robots and couldn't even make THAT any fun.
Some serious ambivalence here
I get the smarts behind the gore in these movies, and I like what they're going for. The second one's even funny, in a really nasty way.
LlamaWax: Yes
Maybe they just don't know how to advertise these movies yet. 40-Year-Old-Virgin looked like it was going to be Farrelly Brothersesque, then it turned out to be completely great.
Pirates contrast
I get why people are frustrated by Pirates 3, but sometimes the booing is so loud I wonder whether its naysayers even remember all the really funny and weird parts it had. Scenes like Jack's stint in the Locker earned an awful lot of tolerance for a bloated story, I thought.
Were there really no bugs?
There are going to be spoilers in this post.
Big fat dissent
Yeah, the mythology was way overdone, but I loved how weird this movie was. I thought it was still pretty damn funny and thrilling.
Hooray!
I don't know why there was talk upthread of no one considering Chabon to be a literary master. His books are flat-out great. So damn funny and lively to go with all those perfectly-captured emotions. There's no one whose books I look forward to more.
Double-take
This inventory could go in a list of unexpected inventories. Excellent times.
