Actually Weston died earlier this year, but Welch is the first real important member of Fleetwood Mac to die.

Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan are collectively a Stu Sutcliffe…or something.

He's really good. Not Buckingham-Nicks good, but don't fault him for that (he's a lot better than Burnette-Bramlett Fleetwood Mac).

The soft rock of early-70's Mac wasn't necessarily Welch's fault either. He always said that he wanted the band to rock a little harder - in fact, it was one of the main reasons he left the band and formed Paris. There are some very hard rockers on Heroes Are Hard to Find; it's a very dark, cool album.

Mystery to Me was really Welch's high point as an artist. "Hypnotized," "The City," "Keep On Going," "Miles Away" and "Somebody" are all amazing songs. Really a great showcase for his talents.

I did not know who that was, but I wiki'd her anyway. Yikes.

Not horrific. Better than Summer in Paradise, at least.
Misplaced snark fail.
How many times can I like this comment. Sorcerer is pretty damn great; I'm no Friedkin apologist (most of the last thirty years of his career has been terrifyingly bad) but I absolutely loved that movie.
You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me.
I actually kinda sorta agree with @avclub-e129a878f7b0e5aa9ac09e0282f64ea6:disqus , though quitting a popular show after 3 seasons is inconcievable; season 4 was definitely the beginning of the long decline. Seasons 4 and 5 are still pretty funny (especially the Michael Scott Paper Company arc), but are more-or-less…
A Matter of Life and Death was probably in my all-time top 10 as a teenager, but I don't know how it holds up. As far as Powell-Pressburger's that aren't so foggy I'd say Black Narcissus followed by I Know Where I'm Going and Tales of Hoffmann (which has a weak third part but is just amazing to look at).
Giant is definitely the best of the five (especially in an Oscar bait-y sort of way); it's unfortunate that they weren't in a genre sort of mood that year, because Bad Day at Black Rock and The Searchers were both '56 and have completely stood the test of time.
Considering I hated English Patient, I was very surprised by how great Talented Mr. Ripley was. Probably the first time I realized Matt Damon had some guts as an actor.
The English Patient is all kinds of lousy. You should check out Around the World in 80 Days, however. It's dumb, unpretentious fun done very well; the Academy did right by that one (and kept their noses surprisingly unthumbed).
