Yeah, what a randomly gender-focused review. It doesn't feel like the show/ material was calling for it.

Cable/Network dichotomy isn't the root of his concern though. His concern is that he doesn't care about these characters beyond "hey, I recognize them", which is a story point—not a production one.
I'm confused as to what exactly is missing for you then?
Who the fuck was he in Community?
MOST WASTED / UNNECESSARY CAMEO:
- I had to rewind a few times the first time we got Kristen Wiig as young Lucille because HOLY CRAP did she nail it.
Lucille Bluth wins the popular vote though.
"And she hadn't even seen the license plate."
I honestly think that first episode was meant to be a little… off. The scenes go on WAY too long and it feels like a bar that's purposely being set a few degrees lower.
About time, AV Club.
Or he's just a boytoy guest-star we won't see again after this season?
Something about Nu Bobby's dead little eyes and unenthused-yet-upbeat chanting really scared the shit outta me.
Someone should tell Lena Dunham that she didn't invent or perfect feminism.
Taste the happy, taste the sad… either way I'll probably tear up a bit.
He'd let her shoot him in the face. She's thought about it.
I always chuckle when people play that "a TV show is blank" card out of nowhere when discussing plot or character—as though they're actually saying… anything.
I would have loved Gandolfini as 'Andrew'.
Yeah Catherine went from obnoxious/awkward daughter to just…. I don't even know what, this episode. Yeesh.
I think the Gary "sweetie" scene was less sexually loaded than the review implies. Really, it was more of Gary's weird… affection of Selina (which is somewhere between favorite aunt and school principal). It reminded me of the weirdly hilarious lotion wipe he shared with her last season.
I hate you so much, AV Club….So, so much, for killing that joke. And then digging it up again every week to rape the same, previously desecrated hole without ever cleaning up.
