I thought the whole point of Alcide (at least in the ladyporn department) was to have a hairy, manly alternative to those metro, prettyboy vampires. Then he takes his shirt off and it's nothing but wax and spray tan. Consistently disappointing.

Some of us read Stephenson for the tangents.

OTOH, if this whole thread gets deleted as a spoiler, I will not be offended.
The OP implied that Varys is portrayed negatively in the book. For the record, I don't think that is the case. I think the show has followed the book pretty exactly, showing him to be an incredibly talented spymaster whose true motivations are a mystery but who might (just maybe) have noble intentions.
I don't think it's necessarily important that you LIKE anyone on the show. In fact I think they've done a pretty good job so far setting up each character, even the "good" ones, as substantially flawed.
Hmm
This is a first for me. I read this D+ review and the Ebert review linked above, and neither said anything to dissuade me from seeing this movie this weekend. So the characters are thinly drawn cliches; were you expecting something different? I want a little alien-go-boom, and these reviews, pans though they…
Hell Yes.
Call me an easy mark, but I would drive a few miles to see any band named "Dick Wolf!" play, no matter how bad they were.
Epic troll feed ftl.
Agreed on lo-fi, agreed on the love-it-or-hate-it drone, but for me, enjoying Exile in Guyville has always been about appreciating the lyrics. I think Divorce Song is an overlooked mini-masterpiece, and I don't know that I've heard too many lines better than, "and it's true that I stole your lighter / and it's also…
I followed an arc that I think is pretty typical of Rubicon viewers. I gave up on the snoozefest pilot, was persuaded to come back by good reviews here, really enjoyed the bulk of the show, and was tremendously let down by the finale. Much like the OP, I would bemoan the cancellation more if I had any faith that the…
I agree with you folks above that, to a certain extent, "alternative" music was on its way regardless, and a lot of the qualities that made Nirvana such a seismic shock were shared by a lot of other bands at the time who didn't get half the recognition. On the other hand, I think Nirvana has held up better over the…
I know this is going to come off as glib and dismissive, but all of that stuff in flavawheel's post could be true, and I still wouldn't give a shit. I could argue all of those points, but in the end, I don't care if Nirvana was heavily marketed by their label or pushed on MTV, I don't care if other bands did the same…
There's a difference between missing the point of an article and disagreeing with it. The difference between GNR and Nirvana wasn't just one of presentation or style, and Axl Rose wasn't pretty much doing the same thing as Kurt Cobain.
I don't know if this is revisionist history or hipster backlash, but I'm surprised at the number of people on this board trying to claim that Nevermind wasn't that revolutionary, or at the very least, wasn't that good. So I guess I'll stake out what I thought would be an uncontroversial opinion: Nevermind marked a…
Let Werner have the last word:
Also, Tom Noonan is a colossus. I fucking love that guy.
But no question that the mom from this flashback is not the same character as the mom from "Double Date/Mom." I can't picture this mom (who is practical, direct and anxious to reassure her son) turning into that monster.
Thank God for ziza and DPP. I thought I was taking crazy pills.
