Spartacus was a show I watched to make fun of that stealthily became one of my favorite shows over night.

Its definitely a massive problem. Michigan recently received a $200 million dollar donation. I saw the email and was ecstatic. That could fund a lot of new research grants, classroom updates, rennovations, expand the scholarship fund, etc. Where does half of it go? To build additions to the Big House……its ridiculous.

If we lived in the perfect world you live in where college sports is an entertaining distraction that people occaisionally watch on a saturday afternoon then your argument is fine. But we don't.

That's just a problem with the way a lot of American universities organize themselves. The gen ed requirements prevent you from really getting into what you want to study for the first couple years.

Yeah, most Michigan atheletes are "General Studies"….we do have one lineman who is a neuro-science major…which I find incredibly interesting.

There is also the fact that a full course load of upper level courses at even an average university (and some of the biggest football schools are among the most prestigious in the country) takes a lot of dedicated study hours that these players don't have. They practice all day, every dad and every other week travel…

I'd say the fact that so many people in the south look at the Confederacy as "noble", along with the fact that many Americans hold the stereotype of the "kind wise slave-master" that we style deify our beloved founded fathers, a majority of which owned slaves. Shows that we need movies like this, that confront slavery…

And probably take an incredibly long shower.

Well, as a graduate student in the social sciences I am not sure I would describe myself as a productive member of society..but maybe…someday….

I'll definitely be getting around to it soon. I'm also in the middle of grading my papers for my professor while studying for my own exams so it may have to wait another week or two.

Season 4 of the Wire will haunt me forever, I would closely follow it with 3, 2, 1. Haven't gotten around to 5 yet, the less than stellar reputation for it around these parts has made me hesitate a bit.
