Interesting how the show initially started off as "Hamlet in the Hamptons;" Emily couldn't just murder the Graysons, burn their house down, etc, she had to ruin them, bankrupt them, and expose their criminality in order to make her actions justified.

Because Ashley's clearly got some agenda of her own… infiltrating the Graysons estate either for her own revenge (maybe her parents were on the plane), or she's an agent for Interpol, or maybe this Initiative thing…

One thing worth remembering is that during the pilot flashback, Emily wipes a bit of sand off her hand, strongly suggesting she was just in the dunes…
