Oh Come On
Last time I complained about the overuse of "trope" I was largely (and perhaps rightly) mocked, but come on: "One of the dated tropes of '70s cinema, carried into the next decade, was to zoom in rather than dolly in." How is that a trope? If that's a fucking trope, I'm Harold Bloom's twin fetus

um, *was* hoping, obv.

It was dull. The ending was obvious and cliched, and the movie never felt like a Scorsese flick. I hoping for Cape Fear kind of trashy fun, but really, it was plodding, inane, and completely disappointing.

"essentially your standard tentacle rapefest, albeit a delightful one."

p.p.s

p.s

I'm pretty sure it started here:

AMELIA FUCKING MCGILLICUTTY is brilliant. Almost as good as NOEL BITCHASS MURPHY. They should give you a column where you bag on dumb shit you don't like about…

O'Neal:

Double post with edits, those are the best.

Ellen Page got her start on Trailer Park Boys. That counts for something.

Now you're getting some pressure on the forecheck, Trope-A-Dope. Way to cycle the puck.

@tropeofmonkeys

That was an easy joke, and I knew someone would make it. Congrats, sir, on the obviousness of your riposte.

This is ungracious
because I love AVClub, but could we put a moratorium on "trope" and "tropes"? I suppose it's only a mildly pretentious buzzword as pretentious buzzwords go, but the frequency of its appearances is starting to depress me.

Noticed for the first time
a "Fremulon Productions" (or "Fremulon" something) tag alongside the closing credits, and my heart sang. Ken Tremendous shout-out!

So am I! I'll be your friend!

erm! I'm sorry our opinions have impinged on your enjoyment!! I'll go away!!!

Or was it Mike, not Mick? Memo to casting: find contestants with more differentiated names.

I was kind of disappointed to see Mick, the Jeffrey Tambor looking chef, get invalided out. He kind of amused me. And it was pretty funny to see him wandering around dazed after taking that hit — although of course less funny in retrospect.
