If you are wondering why Canadians can have nice things, the rock bottom support for our sole viable right wing party is 25% of Canadians. There was an attempt at creating a far right anti-immigrant populist party in the last election led by a former Conservative cabinet member (Kicked out for leaving secret documents

Yeah. Ontarian here. We are all baffled that Ford is acting like an adult. I don't know anyone who voted for him, or ever would, but everyone I talk to is grateful he's not fucking this one up.

As a born and raised life-long Albertan, I heartily agree. I applaud Trudeau heartily from my little NDP enclave.

Nothing you say is incorrect, it’s just not applicable to Canada nor relevant to this particular assault-weapons ban. For one thing, what I’m talking about here has absolutely nothing to do with “all gun crime.” Another thing is that while handguns may be used in more mass shootings, those carried out with rifles are

While I’m glad that Trudeau finally got around to fulfilling this promise, the move is still bedeviled by fuzzy thinking and even fuzzier language. With respect to the latter, so far, there have been references to “assault weapons”, “assault-style” weapons, “military-style” weapons, and “military-grade” weapons in the

I had a custom leather concealed carry holster made for it.

I’m confused, too, because yesterday’s US Washington Post has: “Police have said that Gabriel Wortman, the 51-year-old assailant in the mass shooting in Nova Scotia, did not have a license to own a firearm in Canada. He was armed with handguns and long-barreled weapons, some of which were obtained in the United

Australia also has strict automatic weapon and gun licence control laws (as a result of our one mass shooting in 1986)... and it’s great!

As a parent that allowed their child to join the local “rod & gun” club in order to use the archery range, the amount of emails received from the club in regards to these very “serious threats to legal owners of these types of firearms” gets tiresome.

We have waaaay too many dumb motherfuckers who watch waaaay too much American TV.

Go, Canada.

Oh I know. Apparently the NRA inflates the numbers to propagate the idea that assault riffles are a household staple. So the conservative estimate is 5-10million which is still insane. Canada at 100k is so small compared to our numbers, even adjusting per capita. It would be cute if it wasn’t so very tragic.

5 million is AR 15's alone. The total number, well we don’t know, but estimates generally hover between 15 and 20 million.

This is what can happen much more easily when you don’t have a second amendment.

Thanks. We’re rooting for you too.

Note that these weapons were already heavily regulated. They required a special license and could only be transported between the owner’s home and gun ranges, where they could be fired legally.

I’m American and I’m fucking elated. Way to go, Canada.

I am super happy about this. I’m also proud to report that the only negative feedback I’ve seen about this is from my American cousin. I guess that tracks.

I love that Trudeau did this. Unfortunately we have our own fair share of gun nuts up here. It’s amazing how many Canadians think the second amendment applies here.

This was part of the Liberal Party of Canada’s electoral platform. The mass shooting just gave it more urgency.
