I agree with everything except “Martyrs”. There’s no need for a veteran horror lover to see that, let alone a newbie. Everything else on your list is interesting, scary in good fun, or enjoyable. “Martyrs” is none of those things.
I came here just to post these—I absolutely fell in love with those at first sight. I actually squeed when I saw them.
You’re not, and I really do get why other people like it. I just find it a bit weird that out of all the anime available, it’s Evangelion that gets stuff like bullet trains and Doritos and razors in Japan.
My husband’s watched the series multiple times—he absolutely loves it. I’ve *listened* to it multiple times, and I just can’t bear the thought of watching that annoying boy for an entire run. Not to mention movies and whatnot.
After watching the intro for Gangsta., I was CONVINCED it was them. Or at least the same character designer. But nope.
Actually, Madhouse did Black Lagoon. But the Gangsta. intro looks and sounds just like the BL one. =D
I guess. It just seems to be on a much larger and more pervasive scale than stuff in North America.
The protagonist, for one. I just couldn’t get past Shinji—he completely ruined the entire thing for me. I’ve tried several times to watch the series, I get a few episodes in, and he makes me want to bite somebody in half. I just can’t do it.
I don’t think I’ll ever understand the pervasive fascination in Japan with this series.
