Exactly this, just yesterday I was talking to the Missus and said that if Erdogan continues like this the military will step in sooner or later as they see themselves as the protectors of a secular Turkey. If this really ends Erdogan’s time I will not be disappointed

As a European leftwinger Im exstremely conflicted about this, on one hand the democratic tendencies of the Turkish military is overestimated, on the other I firmly believe Erdogans authoritarian tendencies is underestimated.

A lot of their leadership has been forced out or jailed by the current regime. I hope that they suceed and get rid of that asshole Erdogan!

Exactly. That's why when Erdogan was elected, one of his first formal acts was to sack a number of top military brass in the Turkish Armed Forces, just to limit the risk of this happening.

The Turkish military does see itself as a check on the democratically elected government. However Erdogan did a lot to weaken the leadership in the military that could effectively lead a coup.
