There’s plenty of cars without airbags that are street legal, and plenty of cars legal in the US that haven’t been crash tested. This isn’t fundamentally much different, and it’s legal:

In a sports car, more gears mean slightly better acceleration (if your car allows quick shifts) for a better 0-60. Plus, fun to row through more gears.
