I wonder if being taught to be violent from a young age and getting paid handsomely for it contributes to this culture?
It's more about the Battle of Baltimore.
While displays like this are often cheesy and I am a Maryland grad, I think this is a cool idea to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Ft. McHenry. It's not just some random 'Merica! exploitation. Or at least, not nearly as much as usual that we see in sports.
By the way, I understand your point and I gave a fairly extreme counter example. I don't flip out when someone says "god bless you" to me primarily because I know that their intent is benign and it's not worth my time to argue with them over religion, spirituality, philosophy or science.
tl;dr Christians/religious types have been saying this for years so put up with it even if you don't like it. and watch the Washington Redskins on TV.
What's to say I that I'm not being polite? If I truly believe that hell is a wonderful place, suggesting you go there would be a very nice thing to say from my point of view. Maybe not from your point of view, but that's besides the point - I was being nice from my point of view and that's what matters.
If I'm a satanist and tall someone to "go to hell" when they sneeze, should they just accept that it's my mode of being polite?
You're talking about the act of visiting a place with a specific set of values that are literally posted on the door. That's not the same as being in a totally open or public forum and being asked to capitulate to someone else's personal beliefs.
Fact: Live long enough and you eventually die from something.
Redskin is a racist slur for Native Americans, just like nigger is a racist slur for people of African descent (or having dark skin in general). Your argument seems to be that yes, Redskins is a slur, but it's not that bad of a slur and it's used with a positive stereotype so what's the big deal?
So if the emblem is honorable, it's ok to use a slur? Like, say a team had a realistic image of Thurgood Marshall as their emblem and were called, I don't know, the Baltimore Niggers.
If it's honorific, why aren't people running around and calling "them" redskins?
It was a pretty easy to guess correctly on this one.
ONE NATION*
Yeah, but which event is going to net higher profits in merchandise sales?
Are you upgrading more or less often than every 7 years?
So did I.
